Take or take over your career at 30, 40, 50 years old…
For more than 15 years, we have met with an average of two executives (CEOs or CFOs) per day. Two-thirds are Finance Directors and one-third are CEOs or equivalent. A total of more than 7,000 meetings and interviews to date… All the decision makers we meet aspire, for their second part of professional life, to more qualitative functions or responsibilities… positions where they would participate in the development of the company’s strategy or responsibilities where they would have an impact in the major strategic decisions.
Among the youngest, many ask us: “Is there a high way for CFOs careers?” “A trick that works every time? “
Each case is of course specific. Each individual has his own story. But yes there is a specific path to create the conditions for a successful career.
Here is the “royal road”:
- At 30/35 years old: Experience of a position of responsibility in an International Business Unit or subsidiary
- At 35/40 years old: Operational responsibility for a treasury / cash management or financing project
- From the age of 40: Responsibility for one or more cross-functional projects (Information Systems, Shared Service Center, acquisition integration, digital transformation, etc.)
Let’s keeping mind that among the CEOs we meet, 20% are former CFOs.
